We began learning about what a computer programmer is and what they
do. The girls learned about Ada Lovelace and participated in the Hour of
Code. This month, each girl will continue build skills in Scratch Jr. "Coding is the new literacy! With ScratchJr, young children (ages 5-7) can program their own interactive stories and games. In the process, they learn to solve problems, design projects, and express themselves creatively on the computer." (Scratch Jr. Website) By the end of 2nd grade, students will be able to apply gaming design concepts, use the start on bump and tap blocks, use the send and receive message blocks, and much more!

Creation Station
In the Creation Station, the 2nd graders have been working on a variety of new skills. The month began with laptop basics. Next, the girls learned how to use Google Drive on their iPads. We have started saving various pieces of work to their digital portfolios. Info on how to access this from home will be coming at the end of the year! The girls have also been working on Straw Rockets. The girls were given materials and an example of a rocket but no instructions. After several attempts, they learned what worked and what didn't.

French: Qu'est-ce qu'il y a dans ta chambre?
The girls have been learning how to describe objects in a room. They've drawn rooms, described imaginary rooms, and described their own bedrooms. Today, in pairs, they created dialogues where characters greet each other and ask and answer questions about their bedrooms. The girls used the app Puppet Pals to create videos of puppets having their conversations. They were très créatives and everyone is looking forward to watching each group's creation!
